Westfield council finds lots to debate in parking area lighting enforcement

WESTFIELD — The majority of the three-and-a-half hour long City Council meeting

WESTFIELD — The majority of the three-and-a-half hour long City Council meeting on April 6 was taken up by a public hearing on a petition for a zoning amendment of the city's lighting ordinance, submitted by Ward 6 Councilor William Onyski.

During his presentation, Onyski said there are two parts to the amendment of the lighting ordinance, enacted in 2017.

In July, 2022, complaints were made to the building inspector about lights being installed by Westfield Gas & Electric in the parking lot of the former Moose Lodge at 54 Washington St., which brought the issues to the forefront.
